I got a camry 93 LE 4cyl. I bought the car and it didn't come with a radio or anything, it still has the stock speakers. I've been looking into getting a stereo installed. I want to have a stock stereo installed because I want to try to keep that stock look and also there is less risk of it getting stolen. I've had more than my share of stolen pioneers and sony aftermarket headunits and I'm fed up with it. What I've been wanting to do is buy a double din 6 cd in dash changer that comes in some of the newer toyotas. My question is how easy is it to get a setup like that working on my '93? are the connectors the same? how about mounting the headunit? will I need extra hardware to make it work? I dont think I want to even bother trying to install it so I'm going to take it somewhere and have it done so I dont have to worry about it but I want to know how involved it will be. also, does anyone know where I can get ahold of toyota headunits?
to answer your question you shoudl not see any problem with install, i had a double din aftermarket and it fit well. You should be sweet! additional hardware? screws maybe

I'm not sure about 93, but on my 99 there is an input in the rear of the stock stereo that, I believe, is for an external factory disc changer if u wanted to go that route.
I don't believe the newer units will be plug and play on a 93. I think the 92-97 were one type of plug and the 98 (2nd year of generation 4) - 2001 were another type of plug. I'm not sure of the type of plug on the generation 5, but the ones that I have looked at have a curved front face, so I don't think they will fit in a generation 3. My 94 XLE has an upgraded radio and a 3 disc CD that uses a magazine and plugs in to the back of the OEM radio. I would start this project by going to a dealer and finding out from them what radios will work in my car and what OEM CD units will plug in to the back of those radios. Then I would look for this setup on E-Bay or at some Toyota salvage yard that guarantees their parts.
Check www.oemvalue.com They offer several different options for factory stereos on Toyotas. You can even look on there to find what will or will not fit in your car and then buy it off of ebay or some other site. They have a pretty good tutorial on the different stereos that Toyota used through the years. Click the link and scroll down to the different ones they offer. You could even go full navigation system if you really wanted.
Yeah it is a pretty good site for reference and even geting OEM radios and such. THey seem to know what they are talking about on there. I actually found it through one of the forums on here. Hopefully it will help someone out sometime.

^^ exactly,
FYI: i've got a oem 3 cd changer that fits the above years. System costed 750 when we bought the car, so relatively its cheap..let me know. $200 OBO!
Careful....some of the radios require an amplifier. Some years had them right in the radios themselves, some had external amplifiers. Just be careful you know what you are getting before you buy.
