i just changed the shift knob cover on my 95 camry to an Ichibahn one. but when i yanked off the stock cover, the overdrive wires came with it but i can still make the slight incline trips. in hawaii, there arent that many places to use overdrive anyways. when i say use it, i mean turn the button off so it reduces resistance. besides having it on is better fuel economy right? so turning it off's not needed yeah?
well if ur in stop and go traffic a lot i turn od off so as to not have to trans shift wen not needed. If ur trans is gonna go into 4th wen ur not going soo fast...that will hurt ur gas mileage. od on is more for free flowing traffic.
yea well u have a 02 camry and we have older model camry's. The trans does not always make the right decision on wen to shift. It cant be perfect all the time. I think it all depends on how u press the gas. Just because u aint going fast doesnt mean that it wont shift.
At least on older Camry's, it all depends on how much your accelerating. Mine used to shift into 4th (OD) when you had your foot off the acellerator, going slow. It never used to hold any gear unless it was specifically selected.

Interesting... I didn't know older models did that... when I let go of the accelerator, my car will either drop a gear or stay in the current one... but it'll never move up to 4th unless its necessary speed-wise..

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
and if you were here in canada, you'd use 4th even in-town...lol...
but more on topic though....did ALL the wires come out with the shifter? or did you just rip part of the wires out? if you ripped the wires ALL off, the you're in for a load of work to back track back to the harness that they came out of....

not really. final gear/final ratio matches almost identical so cruising in 4th in and old camry is like 5th in a new one.
new camrys have shorter 2nd 3rd and 4th.
