I wrote this to someone last year....
"Basically, the O/D button is a switch...push it in, two wires
touch and it's on. When the button is out, the two wires don't touch and
the O/D is off.
Take off the shifter by removing the two screws (I'm doing this from memory so I might miss some stuff) at the back. Pull it up...it'll stop because of the O/D button wires. There's a little panel at the back of the shifter. Remove that...wait...I can't really remember this part...all I remember that a spring popped out...but anyway, you need to snip the O/D wire to remove the whole shifter. Someone please go over this and correct me.
Once it's off, you'll probably have to cut the metal rod shifter, both the
inner and outer rod. With a hacksaw, took me about 15 minutes...you might be able to use a pipe cutter (mine rods are round). Make sure you measure this out properly with your new shifter because this is permanent. If you ever need to put on your stock shifter, you'll have to buy a new metal
shifter thingy. You get the point.
Take the O/D wire and feed it under the center console until you see that
center coin holder? Just look at my old pics. All you have to do is buy a
little toogle switch and attach the wires to each end. Doesn't matter which
ends, as long as you know what is on and off. Most likely you'll have to
extend the wires so you'll need to get more wiring...I think I'm using
leftover speaker wire. When connecting to the switch, most likely the
contact will be quite small so you might have to solder the wires on...if
one ever disconnects, your O/D will turn off, you'll be stuck in third
gear....
Attach the shifter...that's pretty much about it. I hope I didn't miss
anything but the major steps are there. Just remember, make sure you don't cut off too much off the shifter or else...."
