Well, that depends... what kind of oil is currently running in the car, dino or synthetic? If its synthetic, then you need to stick with synth... I like to use 10w30, but I live in a warmer area than you, and winter is just around the corner... so I'd say use 5w30 until like... March or April, then switch up to 10w30 from that point until the end of September. If you currently have dino oil in your car, you should PROBABLY stick with dino since you've got so many miles on your car. You'll avoid leaks that way.

I agree with sticking with dino, if dino was in there to begin with. I've heard many bad things about switching oils. There is no problem with running 5W30 in a higher temps. 5W30 is read 5Winter30, this means it provides better protection at lower temps.

Look at the reccords. Syn oil will cost more, so it you have old bills, then look at that. Don't know if this is true, but doesn't dino oil get darker than syn?

I believe it does, yes... when I used to change out my dino oil, it was dark brown or black practically. I believe that synthetic runs cleaner, and doesn't get as dark. And yes, synthetic oils usually cost about twice as much as dino, so check your records if possible.

Have any of you actually, personally, switched to synetic after using dino and had problems? Because I've heard the same thing about developing leaks after switching but I've also heard that it is just bs. Anyone have any personal experience? I personally don't believe it will be a problem to switch.

I just switched up to synthetic blend, and have had absolutely no problems. In a couple more thousand miles, I'll move up to full synthetic and let you know how it goes.

Whitecamryghost: More than likely if someone used synthetic in their car, they mention it while selling it (i know i mentioned it when i sold my celica). Cus automatically, you give the perception that this dude took care of his car!
if your not sure, more than likely its dino oil. Since its sept, i'd say stick with 5w30...and you can continue with 5w30's in NY summers too, but if your planning on a going to a warmer climate, then i'd say go with 10w30 at that time!

Currently my Camry is running at 175k miles, i switched to quaker state high mileage oil at about 163k miles. In either case, my engine is leaking oil quite a bit, not enough to be dangerous between oil changes. Engine still seems to be running strong.. my tranny is a different story, delayed/jerky downshifts
