I recently blew the engine in my 91 Camry, 4cyl auto. I am looking into putting in a Japanese take out engine into it since they are well-priced. In putting this in my car, what should I watch out for? Any issues to keep in mind? Problems? Any help or advice or websites to make the process go smoother would be appreciated.
Well most toyota's are manufactured in the US. The only thing Jappanese Built now is the Engine and Transmission i think.
I think it should work fine. Becuse they are the same engine, except standards in US are different than japan. So you might run into some kind of problem with emmisions or something.
Sorry i dont have a proffesional answer, Just my opinion. Good luck with that. and welcome to TN
I've used them before with good results. I would suggest replacing the timing belt/ water pump/ and seals before dropping it in. That way you will maximize the milage you will get out of it before having to anything else to it.

^Like it? Get yours from XSPEED!
youll fail visual emissions if you have that (they hav eno egr) but they run cleaner then usdm and adm engines.
thats about the only real problem.

The only issue I see is with the EGR and number of bolts on the crank.
3S-FEs come with a 6 bolt or 8 bolt crank. The later ones are 8 bolt.
Just make sure whoever you buy the motor from gives you the correct flexplate/flywheel for the motor. You want a flexplate since you have a automatic.
Other then that, the motor bolts right up. You'll have to use your existing manifolds and accesories though, since the motor most likely comes as a long block (complete block and cylinder head).
so with that question, if I were to swap in a jdm 3s-fe and I needed a part for my car am I going to still get parts for a 95 camry OR am I going to need parts for a MR2?
