Replacing OEM speakers

I want to upgrade my OEM rear speaker for my 1996 toyota camry and was wondering how to take it apart since the screws is bolted on top inside the board. Also would the after market speaker fit it since the OEM speakers only have 3 screws which is at the different place then most speaker at 4 screws at each coner. Do i have to drill new holes?

i would appreciated if Anyone who has done please reply to my post.

Thank you,

the Aftermarket Speakers should fit wthout problem, you will need to drill new holes for the new speaker. If your car comes with a plastic bracket of some sort, you should be able to take the OEM speaker out and Re-Use the bracket for the OEM speaker.

Are you doing doors, or rear deck, or both?

I had to pretty much dissassemble my rear seat to get to the rear-speakers... I know it sounds crazy, but that's exactly how it's got to be done. Get a copy of the Haynes auto manual for 92-96 Camry's...it explains in detail how to get the rear speakers out. It was a pain to do.

I replaced my cheap factory Fujitsu's with some nice 6x9 Polk 3-ways (dB Series) They fit fine, but I had to make my own clips to mount in the factory screw holes.

Good luck!

Don't know if this will help, but here's some pics I took during the process:

1. El Cheap factory units:

2. New Polk dB in rear deck opening:

3. Rear deck and Rear seat removed with new speakers in place:

I was looking at speakers and have two question. What is so special about component speakers. And what size are the speakers in the front doors and the tweeters in an 04.

Do a search, there's plenty of info on how to change the rear deck speakers, there's also Rayray's DIY Articles in the Ultimate Audio Sticky in the Audio/Video section that shows pictures and step by step instructions on how to do it.

Here's the direct link for you.

Components are built better than a coaxial speaker. They can handle more power, and they have a better crossover. You can also position the tweeters up higher, as oppsed to a coaxial speaker with the tweeter pointing to your feet.

In an '04 camry you have 6x9 mids, then a 2" tweeter higher in the door. I' rec a 6.5" or 7" component set. But if you are going to go with components, it's highly recomended to get an external amp to power them, so the cost can definitely go up.
