ok, i took the advice of my fellow board members and called the dealer this morning regarding the code resetting of my factory head unit. what are they going to do that i can't do or that no one knows how to do here on the board. call me cheap, but for the $60 they would charge, i would like to save the cash and do it myself. it can't be that hard, can it?
i think you better off paying $60 rather you do it yourself. you dont wanna mess around with the security code. once you've stuffed the code up or something then thats the end of it.
so better off paying them if i were you, or get a new system LOL
If I remember right they have to call to get the code using the VIN number. Or they will ahve to pull the radio and get the serial number off of the radio and call using that number.
Here is a site that claims to be able to provide the codes for you. COst is 38 bucks using paypal. May be worth a shot. Saves a little money and you dont have to go to the dealer.
One other thing if you have the manual follow the directions for putting the code in and try using something fairly generic. I remember most people used something like 000 or 123 for their code. You have 9 tries before it locks completely then you ahve to take it to the dealer. If you have the owners manual I would look everywhere you can in it to see if there is a three digit number written down somewhere. If you find one it could possibly be the radio code. Most of the time if it is written in the book it will be on the inside of the front or back cover.

Here is my problem, I feel that the dealer should provide you with the code when you purchase the car, and then for everytime after that they can charge.
Batteries die, and even if you change a battery before it dies you can not change it fast enought to where you would not recet the computers. I bet if i took your car in to the dealer to get the battery replaced it would cost $60+ and they would punch in the code for you.
Maybe my thinking process is ignorant, but im dam sure that i would raise hell, if they never issued me the code to begin with. Can't this be percived as withholding information?
SORRY TO BE A THREAD HOG, just wanted to voice my conern on this.
The Toyota Unit of those years had a defualt code of 000. You could set your own code. The problem is codes get set, codes get lost and cars get sold. SO I really would not blame it on Toyota.
I don't think there is any code when new. It's up to the owner to set it. I had a security one in when I bought the car. Took it out, put it back in and worked. No code was ever set.
