Question brake changing how-to?

I'm trying to help a buddy of mine change out his brakes on his '97 4 cyl. camry. I don't think he has the abs option.

Is there any how-to's posted on how to do this? I did a search and couldn't find anything that was very helpful.

Also, where is a good place to get the parts? Aftermarket or OEM...don't matter to me as long as it's a good value.

Thanks guys!

this is a crappy tutorial cause i'm tired but here goes... take off the wheel take off the caliper... rotor will come right out when u take out the caliper ... change pad/rotor or both... if it's the rears u have to push the piston back in with a tool i think

Use the skinny for the generation 4 at the top of this forum. The brakes for the generation 3 and 4 are the same. Also, you can go to Autozone's web site for this information. The have a good write-up on brakes for Camrys.

PULL up on the ebrake handle about 50 times, this will adjust and tighten the rear drum brakes. you will feel the brakes tighten as you do it.

I like to get brake parts from www.rockauto.com

Akebono is the OEM brand (same as buying toyota brand brakes) so they are fine.

I also like the Raybestos PG Plus series (both for pads and rotors) very quiet and good stopping power.

You can't go wrong with Brembo brand, but IMO they are over priced.

Hawk brand pads are good as well, I think most people go with the HPS series.

Make absolutely sure that they are not ABS brakes. If they are, the procedure is more complicated and they are very easy to mess up if you get lackadaisical.
