Camry Leaking Engine Oil...

I've posted about this same topic a few times.

But Today, I noticed there was no engine oil again. It was parked on my driveway which is pretty steep. Near the middle to rear passenger side, there was a lot of dripped oil. There were also two small spots when we moved the car. This I guess would mean my car isn't burning oil as I thought. And a possible newb question, Why is there engine oil leaking out the rear? I don't believe it is brake fluid because it has a strong gasoline//oil scent.

I also noticed that the car is having troubles shifting. My old thread was about how it would get "loud" near 60 mph and now, when the car was going 20 and shifting, the car had huge troubles trying to shift. The car even lurched 3 times while we were driving. The car will probably get checked out by a mechanic, but anyone w/ a preliminary analysis?

Thanks,

-Jimmy

Sounds like you probably need to replace the gasket from the oil pan, but first pinpoint were the oil is dripping from, also check that your drain plug is tight enought. And for the tranny do a pan drop to change the filter and gasket if you haven't done that already. but don't do a flush with the machine because it can kill th tranny.

Lurching is a bad thing. Sounds like your tansmission is failing. If they suggest that you get it rebuilt do a lot of research in to who rebuilds them best in your area. It is an art. Rebuilt tranies often don't last long. You might consider putting on a used one.

Oil leak is probably not from the pan. Usually it is from somewhere higher that drips down onto the pan. the main engine seals come to mind as does the valve cover gasket. I think a failed head gasket will leak into the cylinders, not onto the ground.

If your transmission is giving you problems might it be transmission fluid leaking rather than engine oil?

Alright. Thats something I was thinking that my Tranny is about to go out. Anyone can confirm?

Also, I do not believe it's Tranny fluid because when I check my dipstick, there is no engine oil.

And I may have asked this before but why doesn't any light go on telling me there isn't any engine oil?

sometimes it does but most often, it does not.

i had leaks before and it was a bitch
engine light indicator does not go on most of the time

possible problems,

valve cover gasket
rear main seal
distributor gasket

all those i changed out and help reduce the leak rate.
small leak somewhere but at 180k, i am not expecting much
