More turbo Camry videos

The time has come for some in-car videos of the beast. These are some of the videos I filmed a couple weeks back. I really want to keep most of you guys updated on my car and see it evolve as I progress into more tuning. Here is a brief overview:

14.5 PSI of boost (about 100 KPA on my E-boost above the steering column).

Tuned up to 5500RPM. I haven't had a chance to unleash it to 7000RPM. Being at such high compression (10.5:1), I had to slowly find the limits of boost, RPM, power with pump 94 oct gas. So after 5500RPM, the car doesn't really rev nicely up there (that's why I early shifted).

In between shifts, I let off the throttle slightly to save the transmission. This video was really one of my tuning/datalogging runs, and I always take it easy on the transmission because I wasn't racing against time or anyone else. I know most of you really wanted to see how a built automatic transmission shifts, but eventually I will be shifting it hard when the car gets fully dialed in. Also, in case some of you are wondering, my transmission has full manual control of the gears and it shifts according to the stock shifter position (take note on the shift indicator on the dash board). L = 1st, 2 = 2nd, D = 3rd, and O/D button = 4th

One of the videos (midrange pull) was to illustrate how the high stall converter behaves.

At the current moment, the car is pretty nicely dialed in. I should have some dyno numbers (finally) and really find out what I am putting down. Anyways, enjoy the videos

I must say BIG thanks to Luckynumber5 again for hosting these videos Last time he offered to host the videos as well and I remembered the server bandwidth was sucked dry after two days...LOL So d/l them while they're still up!

Tony has built the crap out of his tranny. No way the stock tranny could handle that amount of power..

Good job tony, lookin very sick .

Is it just me, or did I hear a bit of compressor surge when you let off the gas? (in your mid-range pull video that is)

edit: oh I just noticed that 5.5sec 0-60. ahhhh cracks me up.

Glad you guys enjoyed the video... Thanks for the props

Hey ModifierLE, the stock auto trans is only good for about 220WHP reliably. Anything higher, you would need to upgrade the transmission and the converter. On a mild supercharged setup, I wouldn't worry about an upgrade with the exception of synthetic ATF fluids and tranny cooler. But on a turbocharged setup, power comes more abruptly and power will easily exceed the limit. Check out the link under my sig for the shop that built my transmission

Hey DarkMastyr , that's just the BOV fluttering. It happens when I slowly ease off the throttle, and did it sound good on the video

Hey vsixcamry, the auto trans was shifted manually. The dash indicator lets you know what gear I just shifted into That was how I was able to shift the gears early (before it reached redline) and have full control of the gears. I am not sure if you read some of my older threads regarding this modification, but basically I made up a circuit so that my shifter position signal will trigger the transmission soleniods directly (skips the stock ECU). I do have a flip switch which I can put back into regular auto mode for daily driving.

My 0-60 mph time indeed was not bad at all for a quick street launch on a pretty big turbo. I know if I let the boost build a bit before I launched, it would probably shave off another second. I will save that for the next video shoot

My Camry now revs to a 7000RPM redline, so the end of my 1st gear would already land me at about 54 mph On the above video, I shifted way too early and it actually bogged and I lost boost. I will be filming another video soon; if I were to do the same 0-205kmh pull with a 7000RPM redline, I actually won't have to shift into 4th gear at all this time. Talking about lazy long gears.

Oh, the GTR is not mine.. I still have possession of it though because my friend lives about 2 hours away from the city and I am helping him out in meeting up with buyers for the car. Currently the car is going for $20k CAD - R32 skyline GTR

wow man, quite impressive, i really love seeing each update as it is given to us... it was also cool to see the high stall in action, since i have never been in the cockpit of a car utilizing one

I espeically like that you used your blinker going into the driveway hehe, i bet the neighbors love the courtesy after the boosting around their housess

how much $$$$$ did it take to build that AUTO?????? if possible divide it up between parts & labor. I may know someone who could do it extremely cheap so labor $$ MAY not be much of an issue
