What size and brand of tires are you running on your Camry?? I currently have the stock 14" steel rims with 195/60 r 14 tires on them on my 1993 Camry LE. Goodyear Weatherhandlers, and I hate them.
They are a very hard tire, and pretty old, so it's time for something new before the snow starts here in Michigan. It's pretty scary trying to stop quickly, this is my first small car without anti-lock brakes.
What tires work good in the winter? Although it doesn't snow too much here , I still like to be prepared for it.
I should probably get some snow/ice tires to use only in the winter. I have had them in the past, but they seem to wear out very quickly, because it's mostly dry pavement here in the winter anyways.
What's the widest tire I could fit on the stock rims without any rubbing?
I don't see the point in going with a bigger rim, it only makes the car ride rougher, and the tires cost more.. (I have 18" rims on my Camaro...)
you could fit a 205 on there if ya wanted to, it will give ya a little better traction and all but alot depends on the tire and sidewall, but you prolly know that. i went from rain tires to kumho ecsta supras which are summer rotational tires and the car handles much better, but they suck in the snow and r not the best in the rain.
On both my generation 3 and generation 4 Camry 4 cylinder cars, I use the Dunlop Sport A'2s. They are an "H" speed rated tire which is what was standard on the car when it was new, and are pretty decent in the snow, for an "H" speed rated tire. Remember, they still will not be as good as a set of snow tires which are made of a softer rubber and have a deeper tread pattern designed specifically for the snow, when it does snow. They are just a good compromise INHO. The size is P195-70 R14.
I just ordered a set of Falken Ziex ze512 for my camry 195/65-14. I had them on my Malibu and I loved them, so I'm trying them on the Camry now as well. Can't beat $37/tire. I've read alot of mixed reviews on them.. IMO they are nice for the $$.
Bridgestone Potenzas on my Gen2, 205/50 16's and they're gettin to race depth

215/60R15 on the stock steelies. neturel handling over teh limit (as in she dont understeer), higher grip then even bridgestone potensa re01's but wiht oen weak point -- week sidewals, so its a little squirmy.
EDIT: FUCK! Nankang TourSport 611 here lol

on my stock steelies i have 205/65/15 bfgoodrich sport ta, they were good, nice and quiet, handled well in the wet and in the dry. they didn't squeel much when taken hard.
currently, on my gen 5 camry sportivo rims i have 215/60/16 continental eco-contacts. they are very good in terms of being a passenger car tyre, they handle very well in both wet and dry conditions. they sqeel quiet a bit when taken hard.
