Whiny Front End Noise

I have noticed a NEW noise in the front end of my 96 Camry. It ONLY makes the noise when my foot is on the gas. I don't have to be accelerating, just maintaining speed. The minute I let off the gas, the noise stops.

It does seem to vary with speed.

I recently had both drive axles replaced - couldn't do it myself due to rust - and am wondering if this might be an issue with bearings, joints or the axles.

I cannot tell if it is coming more from one side or not.

Thanks for any help.

i would inspect the front wheel bearings. check for in and out play as well as for grinding noises while being turned by hand.

If it was the wheel bearings, wouldn't it make the noise while "coasting".

I've checked that fairly thoroughly and it does only happen when given gas.

If they took the resonator off the air intake (for some reason) when they were doing the axles, not having the resonator makes a similar sound...
