I'm New

I bought a 1998 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl Auto for $500. Before you congratulate me, here's why:

-Engine had a rod knock, pulled the oil pan and the crank is rough and eroded the cyl #2 rod bearing. Therefore, my dad and I need to pull the engine.
-Has a total of 13 dents, so far I have repaired 9 of these dents, My dad asked me where the dents were when I told him. (I am skilled in bodywork)
-The Interior was shot. The former own smoked pot in the car and ruined the carpet, door panel inserts, seat covers but oddly enough his headliner has no burns, stains and after Febreze, it has no smell.

Here's what I have done:

-9/13 of the dents are fixed, and the clearcoat has been sanded to perfection.
-All but the front passenger's seat covers have been replaced, with OEM Toyota Seat Covers bought off of eBay for $60 W/Sh.
-Bought carpet from Stockinteriors.com for 123.00 Shipped.

Look at it like this man, the cost of the car + whatever you put into it is still far, far ahead of what a '98 still brings. You win big-time... fresh body, what I assume will be a refreshed/reman/new motor (one of the three, anyhow), fresh interior... best of every world there!

Welcome to TN, from a former owner of a gen2 and a gen3.5 (both of which were manuals )

Steve

I finsished installing the seat covers, so the entire front and back seats are finished, in my first post I made it seem like I hadn't bought front covers, but that $60 set was all inclusive.

I figure this will be a restoration kind of deal, which I have done on my 1973 Honda ST90 and the 1973 Triumph GT6 that is my post name.

The body work is done other than 1 spot is still only in base coat, still needing the 2 necessary clearcoats. The rest has been clearcoated, wet sanded, buffed and waxed.

The carpet has been a trip from hell, as after a few days some orange spots appeared, and I know it hadn't been stained by me. The carpet people are "looking into it", even though it was in its own room where it could breathe without my cat sitting on it (she doesn't pee, but would get fur on it).

I knew I could make 2 - 3 grand on the car, but its going to my mom, and I'm going to get her 1996 Saturn SL1 to sell to a poor schmuck.

GOOD LUCK WITH THE MARK VIII, try this forum out, I go there all the time for my Town Car(daily driver), there isn't flaming or anything.
