4th Generation Rusted clip on front wheels

I tried to take out the fornt wheel for brake cleaning, but there is a rusted metal clip that lock the wheel in position. Is it alrite if I remove it? Will it affects handling and performance? I mean, if I drive too or too much cornering, the front wheel might loosen? Thanks for helping

There's a clip holding the front wheel? Shouldn't it be only 5 nuts? If you mean the clip that holds the main hub nut cover, then yeah, you can remove it, and then replace it with a new "splitpin" after, if thats what your mean...

If I don't replace it, will it be dangerous?

Yes it will. It is designed for safety, so the hub nut does not spin off. It physically can't under vibration with the pin there. So definetly replace it when your done.

Thanks for the advice. So, any ideas where to get it? Is Canadian Tire okay?

You should bea bel to go to nay auto parts store and get a new cotter pin to put in there. Just install it ehn make sure you bend it so it doesnt fall out. It is there to prevent the axle nut from vibrating loose.

Nevermind guys, I can take the wheel out. I must be thinking too much...
But is there any specific place where I should not spray the brake cleaner? Thanks!

jsut spray wherever you want to. Youarent going to hurt anything. Unless you take caliper pins out then you dont want to wash the grease off of those. If you do jsut grease them again so they can move freely.
