I got a 2003 camry, im at 56,000, and im about to change the brakes. what are the best brands? thanks and if you can, please drop a site i can order from, or if i can pick it up from pep boys that would be cool..
Brembos are what everyone go for. Expensive but worth it. I believe it's been covered numerous times. I honestly think Rotoras, and wilwood are good ones as well.
If so I'd rec the dealer pads if you got 56K out of them. They're like 45 bucks for the set. Or Akebono Pro Act Ceramics. I put over 40K on those and they still looked like new when I got rid of my gen4. Those cost about 55-65 bucks.

Becareful when choosing pads. When trying to save 5 or 10 bucks you could come back with a squeaky brake. When it comes to quiet and efficient, I go with OEM brake pads. I never tried the Akeebono brand, but for what it is worth, I hear Akeebono makes the Toyota OEM pads. Can't go wrong with either of these.
Akebono pro ceramic are the same as the Toyota OEM - good pads
Raybestos PG Plus
for a step up
Hawk HPS
The good old Toyota pads are fine too, I would get whatever you happen to find the cheapest of the above - do not get any old pad from the local auto parts store
For rotors, Brembo are good but overpriced IMO
Raybestos PG rotors are just as good for less money
my pads are still good, but the stupid things squeek too much--ceramics from good year..don't remember the brand
can you guys list where to go for the most possibly cheapest for each brand meantioned??

yea...i've bought some disc quiet from nappa to spray on the rotors and it's only a temporary fix...doesn't last..the squeek comes back. the brakes were done back in 01.

KVR - good street performance pads - qutie, not too much dust
^ and putting the quiting stuff on the rotors won't ruin the pads, though it may add to them glazing faster.....but it's more the fact that if you put it on your rotors, you won't be able to stop properly....

The spray is made to be put onto the rotor , drum and pad (shoe) surfaces to aid and ensuring a good bed in of the pads and steel. That is why the machined roughness of the rotor and drum are cruicial. If they were polished smooth, then the pads cannot bed in correctly and there is poor braking.
Putting the spray on after the rotor and pad have been used is not a long term cure to squeal. You should sandpaper the pads and machine the rotors to remove the glaze first.

yes, the dis-quiet from crc was meant for the rotors and the drums, they give out a metallic coating...supposed to, not smooth out, but to even the surface more.
the braking is fine, no advance, no retard in performance.
i hadn't thought of sandpaper ...good idea...i'll look into that.

You can pick up Raybestos full ceramic pads at Pep Boys. They should run around $50 a set. I have them on both my 94 and 98 Camrys and like them.
