Unhappy Help!! My Car Died!

I was trying to get my family back to Houston, after Rita passed. Started towards the highway and only got a couple miles when the Camry started chugging and then shut down. Luckily my wife's cousin was still close enough to come get us. My wife is pregnant so we got her back to her cousin's houseand me & the cousin's husband limped the Camry back. I hadd to keep pumping the gas pedal to keep it from shutting down. Anyone know what could cause this?

hard to say. Dirty fuel filter. Fouled plugs. Stuck TB. EGR. Do you have an I4 or V6?

ps- glad to hear you and your family are safe.

Glad you and your family are OK.

Have the garage put a fuel pressure gage on the fuel rail to check the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator.

Mike

They said they saw arcing between the plug wires. But would that cause it to die?

Yes! You should have mentioned that in your first post. What kind of shop is this anyway?
Any shop that is worth their salt would know this. It may not be all of your problems but it should be fixed first.

Wow As a temporary fix, you can try spraying the wires with WD-40 to remove the moisture, but replace the wires ASAP.

Okay so I'm thinkin of having the shop replace the stock spark wires with NGK and put new NGK spark plugs in, replace the fuel filter, and possibly replace the cat. If I go with stock parts it will be around 900 USD. Stock cat. costs$600. Thinkin about using a catco cat. Anyone know if I have that choice or pretty much have to stay with parts from the dealer?
