I have a 96' Camry and I just started on a mission to replace my power window regulator and motor, however I hit a problem. My window is up completely and every manual I've read has said to lower the window to remove the bolts fastening the window glass to the regulator guide, but my motor is totaly ko'ed and won't even go down at all . No guides have addressed this issue if your window is up and won't go down. I've tried force, but no luck, plus i'm worried that I might break something. I forget how old and brittle the plastic fasteners are on this car. So there is my problem. I would appreciate any advice. I'm tempted to just cut the wire on the regulator to hopefully let it drop below for access. Anyone think that's a good idea?
If you are replacing the entire regulator and motor as an assembly Jsut cut the cable for the regulator. It is cable driven if I rememeber right. If it is cable driven then jsut cut the cable since you are going to replace it anyway. Once you cut the cable you should be able to lower the window as needed.

SOme of them are made as one assembly and cannot be changed out seperately.

My unit is all one piece. I got mine off of ebay for my driver's side for around $63 shipped, granted it is aftermarket, but I don't want to spend ~ 195 shipped for true toyota replacement parts. Ebay has a ton of aftermarket parts for the Toyota 92-96 Camry. Really convenient and reasonable.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'm just going to cut the wire and let it slide down since it's broken and I'll be replacing it anyways.
hey guys, i'm having a problem with my window too.... i wana replace it but not sure what to replace.. the window is up and it keeps slipping down, i try to roll it up but when i try the switch, nothing happens... it wont move but i do hear a little motor... should i replace both or just the regulator or will a new regualtor work with that old motor? thanks

Normally the motor and regulator are all one piece. so youwill have to replace all of it. It isnt that hard to do.

this is what anyone with a considerable window problem should do. the regulator setup is cheap as hell... quite a bargain as far as replacement parts generally go.
