Where's the fuse???

Hi Everyone!

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry LE 4dr sedan. Usually the back windows don't work due to electrical problems, but the driver and passenger side windows work fine.

The other night, my mom was able to roll down the back window (I've got power windows and locks), and now none of the windows are working! The power locks are also gone and I have to manually lock each door now.

Everyone I've asked thinks it's a fuse problem, but I haven't been able to find the fuse for the power windows and locks... where are they??? They are not with the other fuses in the coin drawer, nor are they under the hood by the battery... My brother thinks it's over in the foot area of the passenger seat, but I don't want to have to take my car apart just to find a stupid fuse box... Can anyone help???? Please reply or email me!

Susan

It sounds like you may have a problem with the master switch for the power windows and door locks. But to answer your question the fuse you are looking for is loacted behind the coin holder. If you remove the coin holder and then there are two philips scres that hold the ocer behind the holder. If you remove those you should be able to see three large fuses. They are the type taht are covered in plastic and have a large copper strip in them. If it is blown you will be able to see the copper filament blown. THis is for a 94 LE but it should be the same. THe fuse location on my 94 is #33. Look in your owners manual if you have it and it will tell you exactly what fuses run what components.should be around page 240 or so towards tha very back of the owners manual.

this sort of sounds like ageing wiring/switches/solenoids that need a good cleanup.

The "master switch" he's refering to is the main switch panel that allows you to control all the doors from the driver side; HERE

Over time, it degrades and requires servicing or replacing. Sometimes it's just a matter of cleaning off oxidization that's accumulated, finding frayed wires or replacing the entire unit.

Use this guide to help remove the switch; HERE

Before you go ripping the door apart, try and diagnose and isolate the cause of the problem as best you can. Does the window not respond to any switch or just the "master switch"?

As for the power windw fuse inteh coin box you will probably have to remove the black plastic panel that is behind the coin box. There are two phillips screw on the top part of that panel that will allow you to remove the rest of it. Once you remove these two screw you should see several fuses hideen behind it.
The rest of it jsut go by what Phi said.

Okay, awesome, thanks so much for the advice!

I haven't tried it yet, but I'll have to do it when I get home from work tomorrow... a girl has to do some shopping first.

Thanks Phi for the walk-through, you make it sound like kindergarten.

As for whether or not it's just the master switch (driver's side), the windows don't go down when you run around the car pushing the switches on their own doors...

Sigh, Camry's were so much easier to handle back in the day... everything's gotta be a power switch nowadays.

Thanks guys (and gals..?), I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Oh, also, I live in St. Paul, Minnesota. Do any of you know of a good mechanic? I'm always worried about getting ripped off or being taken advantage of. I'd much rather have a referral than just a walk-in. Any of you tried the Sam's Club auto repair shop in White Bear?
