exhaust mesh pipe

hi guys been doing my research on this topic
just wanted a confirmation on what i think my problem is..
have had an exhaust leak now for 2 mths or so
and today got under the car found the culprit
its the 2 pipes that has mesh on them.. problem is one of the pipes has a hole on the top side
and both pipes no longer have there wire mesh...
are these the y pipe??/ and are these mesh's necessary?

Sound slike the flex pip and yes you probably want them to be there so that when the engine moves under acceleration it is not solid. If it were solid you may end up damaging something or have excessive vibrations.

I went to a local Exhaust Shop (they specialise in rods, customs. etc..)
All the guy had to do was cut the old flex off, grab a new flex out of a bin, re-weld (what a great welder!) and he wanted $80 CAD.

Shop around, i'm sure you'll find a good quote!
