Unhappy I need help.

Wuddup, I suddenly gained interst in cars, and I just got my first car . It's a '89 Camry. It still has all the stock parts. I want to hook up my car but I don't know where to start. Anyways, my car makes a clicking sound when I press the gas pedal. Does anyone know what it might be and how I can fix it? Please help.

when you say a clicking sound when pressing gas pedal, do you mean a noise inthe car or there is noise from the engine when pressing the gas pedal? If it is under the hood in the engine it could be any number of things. if it is in the car it is probably one of the pivots for the gas pedal or maybe even the throttle cable rubbing on something.

Need more info! Is it a manual or auto? Does it do it when stopped or moving? Does it do it when going straight or turning? Throw us a bone!

Well it sounds like it's coming from under the hood. It's a manual, and it makes the sound when moving no matter what direction.

Does it sound like an exhuast rattle? Or is it directly related to engine speed?

My best guess would be a CV joint, 2nd would be pinging
but that has more of a rattling sound.

1st thing 2 do would be to buy a service manual so that terms
like CV joint and pinging get explained in detail.

I'm a rookie, do you mind telling me where CV joint is? And yes, it sorta sounds like an exaust rattle, but then again I'm not sure what that is either. Sorry...

I "knew" you were gunna ask !

CV = Constant Velocity joint, sorta like a mini driveshat on either side of the motor which turns the front wheels, as in forward motion. They also "turn" as part of the steering.
When they wear, they tend to CLICK then CLACK REALLY LOUD when very worn
Car 101 iz now concluded....

ok. Where's it located? And what's it look like? Is this something I can do on my own or do I need to take it to a mechanic?

The easiest thing 2 do would be to take the car to a front end
SPECIALIST & get an opinion FREE OF CHARGE.

Ummm I know a fair bit about cars & I wouldn't personally do it myself.

In Oz the're about $170 per side with new boot covers.

Usually only 1 side needs doing.
