3rd Generation Where to get front license plate bracket?

I've got a 1996 Camry, Gen 3.5. It has a stock front bumper, but there is no license plate bracket. I can see faint dimples in the bumper where I believe the holes would go to attach a bracket. However, where can I get a bracket? Is it called a bracket, even? (Sometimes knowing what you're asking for is half the battle.) Basically, it's the piece that the license plate would be bolted to.

Any tips are appreciated.

can you see the holes? that would be the hard part, getting the correct size bolts. you can get a thing that the plate attaches to at any auto store, or walmart

The bumper lacks holes, but there are four small depressions (dimples) where I believe the holes would go. Ideally, I'd like a stock bracket (or really close replacement). I don't want to mount the plate directly to the bumper, but to a bracket that is attached to the bumper.

jsut go to the dealer and get one, or try ebay, or local junk yard. Yes the four dimples you see are for the license plate bracket. Since not all states require the front plate they give it to you as an option you can install. It may be hard to find at the dealer jsut because of the age of the vehicle so the others may be your best bet.

Dealer locally gets $65 for the holder (external part) plus $7 each for the brackets that attach it to the bumper, total of $79.02 plus tax. I was hoping to find a less expensive source.

There are a couple of pick-a-part places in the Houston metro area, but it takes a while for me to drive there, and they won't even tell me if they've got a Camry of the right year(s) on their lot.

I jsut ran mine in with screws I have a team license plate on the front and just screwed it straight into the bumper.

WIth as many Gen 3 Camrys that were sold I am sure they will ahve several there taht you can choose from. JUst make sure to check the trunks for the brackets also. Alot of times people never mount them and they end up staying in the trunk until the car is wrecked or sold or whatever happens to it.

yeah sometimes you will find it if you start rummaging through the trunk. May be in the spare tire well or where the jack and tools are or under the tray on the driver side of the trunk.

You could always custom make one. After I had the bumper replaced, my step dad made me a bracket out of some diamond plate that he mounted on the lip (not sure what else to call it) instead. It's held up pretty nicely.

First of all, you can't even see it since the license plate sits right in front of it. Second, the stuff is pretty sturdy. my step dad said he had a helluva time trying to bend it.

Besides that, you might find that the holes you drill in the bumper will start to rot out after a few years. On my old bumper, the screws would fall right out. I actually lost a licencse plate because the screws popped out. The diamond plate is bolted down and it's not going anywhere, not without taking a piece of the bumper with it.
