Cheap Key after remote Start?

Ok so i now have remote start
which means the transponder is hidden in the engine
Is it possible for me to have a key cut from my master at say home depot or something?
im thinking because the signal is coming from the transponder in the car. The key is really just going to be for saftey so i have a backup in case something happens. Thoughts?

98 XLE was the first year that the transponder keys came out. If you have remote start, then they mount the 2nd key in a box in the engine as to bypass that system. So because of that perhaps its being bypassed all the time?

^the chip in the key sends a signal that allows the fuel pump to turn on, so they hide one on the car so you can use the remote start.

I almost certain you will still need a chipped key even though there is one already in your car. Some part of the system (the cars or the remote start) still checks the key in the ignition or somthin. You can always just try it, all you have to lose is a couple of bucks and a trip to the hardware store. Make sure you let us know how it turns out.

key has the transponder in it right? transponder allows fuel to engine. If you remote start it, engine needs fuel system. But without a key the fuel wont run. So they mount the key in a safe place in a transponder box type thing to give the signal when you ask to start the car.

I doubt you'd need another chipped key now that the transponder is permanently within range of the receiver in the car

I would bet that a regular key could now unlock the door and turn on the car
