well first you are going to have to discharge the system of freon. SInce it is R12 you may have to convert to R134a while you are doig this if you ahvent already. Once you have discharged the sytem there are two hoses that attach to the compressor. You will remove those two hoses and any wires that are connected to it, remove the drive belt for the compressor, then there should be four bolts that hold it in place. They are screwed in from the front side if I rememerb right. Once you ahve those bolts off thenthe compressor should be ready for removal. You will also want to remove the alternator jsut to give you a little more room to work in there.
WHen you replace the compressor make sure you replace the o-rings on the hoses and the dryer for the A/C system.

Plus you will have to have it evacuated and recharged and hope you don't have any other leaks!

Oops forgot to ask what is it doing? Did it seize up or the compressor clutch go out or did it just quit working? Maybe you don't have to replace the compressor?

Not good to discharge your AC in the atmosphere.

Let a shop do it, they'll vacumm it with a specialised tool and you will ahave a guarenteed job.

Very touchy jobs.....aluminium parts

Good luck.
