Can anyone out there who has done this, either PM me a DIY write up, or in some way tell me what i need to do in order to "red-out" my taillights.

It would be greatly appreciated.

There was a DIY posted on here a while ago. Search for it.

I think all u have to buy some testors transparent red paint and spray it on

1. Remove the taillights from the car. Theres some nuts on the backside of the lights.

2. Wash em with soap & water, then dry em off.

3. Mask off the parts of the lights that you don't want to paint.

4. Spray a few light coats on each light, letting it dry between each coat.

I used testors transparent candy apple red.

so i just spray the outside of the light? kool, where can i buy that type paint?

You can buy the testors paint at any hobby shop, or any place that sells model car kits.

so like the wal-mart by my house sells model car kits, would they have it

Since your local wal-mart has model kits, the would most-likely have it, and for a fraction of a most hobby shops' prices. If they don't have it, you can always head to the hobby shop.

thank you for the help. this will give me something to do tomorrow.

one last question, do you use anything to reattach the taillights? i noticed when i pulled the ones off my old car, there was something sticky around where they met the body?

Just don't scrape it off, and you should be fine.

one final question, is it ok to apply some clear coat to the tail lights, and how many coats of paint and clear coat should i apply?

Do as many coats of red until you get the desired color. As for clear coat, you can use any acrylic clear coat. I haven't worked much with testors paint, but if you don't use harsh chemicals or rough brushes when you wash your car, you will be fine without clear coat. 3-4 coats of clear coat should be fine if you want extra protection.

ok well i ended up applying two layers of color, and two layers of clear coat. i applied the clear coat because of scratching and sun fading. lets just see how it holds up.

I just have one question ... is there such thing as aftermarket tail lights for my 1990 camry?

the answer to that question would be no. there is no company out there that produce's any type of aftermarket tail lights for the Gen 2 (1987-1991) Camry's. thats where you have to get creative. one of these days i will try fitting a pair of old style accord lights into my car (something like 1992 i think)
