3rd Generation steering noise

Hi everyone,

I have a small problem with my 95 Camry. When the car is not moving and I turn the steering wheel to the left and right I hear a noise (whiny?). I took it to my mechanic but he couldn't firgure it out. It only happens when the car is at a stand still and not when ot is moving. It's been happening for at least 2 weeks now. Does anyone knows what the problem might be? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

If belts are good and fluid level is good it could be the pump making the noise. Might try changing out the power steering fluid to see if that helps.

check to see if the power steering fluid gets low in couple of days. When u park check to see if u see any fluid on the floor.

it could be your belt...i would check that first...cause if it was the pump you would porbaly have a hard steering wheel. i could be wrong.

in gen 3 whiny noise wont be lack of steering fluid........if that wer to happen then u would feel the power steering going in and out...not hear it. as for pump being bad and u hear a whining sound.....nvr heard of that....$10 says ur power steering belt is worn or loose ........check condition of belt...and replace if necesary.......tighten it a lot.....very simple task...see if that works

passenger side.....side off wheel and 2 bolts that hold plastic cover....if its a v-6 anyways...then the belt will be the thinner one extending to the left, tighten the tensioner. 4 cylander im not sure about its location or if its a separate belt or not

it might, it might not......if u want better sensitivity, drain the power steering fluid, ALL of it in the system, replace teh filter. Run a cleaner through it if possible before u replace the old filter. Then add new filter and add new power steering...my choice is PowerSyn, its a fantastic power steering fluid.

next ur camry is much heavier than an 03 corolla plus ther is a technology difference im sure between the two because of its age. for instance my v-6 camry has great sensitivity but when i get into our 03 f-150 the steering is 2x better along with brake pedal sensitivity
