The piece below has been rusting out for a while on my '86 Camry and I was wondering if anybody knew what it is called... I imagine this is one of the more unusual replacements to be done on a car...
For instance, what do I ask for from my parts store?
Any help is greatly appreciated in advance
John

its the front corner bracket, cars from up north do this, if that bar breaks loose the suspension will become unstable and several things might happen, when you stomp the brakes the bar will break loose and hit the ground and then fold up under the car, or you can go around a corner and it will come loose resulting in the front wheels folding up under the car, it keeps the front wheel centered in the wheelwell, if the wheel goes twards eather end it will hit the body and stop turning resulting in a very memorable ride
If that breaks away the car will SUDDENLY VEER to the LEFT.
This is a critical component & should be replaced IMMEDIATELY !

John, I'm self employed here in Oz, work from home so I work when I feel like it...LOL
I'm 43 & have been back yard mechanicing(iz that a word?) since I was 18.
Things like worn bushes/rubbers & non vital components can be pushed to their limits BUT soldid mounting points are very CRITICAL to holding parts in place.
If that section were to collapse the "OH CRAP" factor when it happens would not be pretty.
If it was just the D rubber on the sway bar bracket that was chewed out ...no probz but that rust "looks" EXTREMELY well advanced & if that caused an accident here in Oz with our "roadworthy" laws on cars, insurance would be VOID, & charges would most likely be laid against the owner by the Police.
For the sake of your fellow motorists & pedestrians a few dollars & some hard(?) work is a very small price to pay I should think.

Since it looks so localised, it might be caused by BATTERY ACID?
Might want to check the battery for boiling/overcharging too.
