Wider Wheels & Air Pressure

I have 205/60R16 tires mounted on 16 X 7 aftermarket alloy wheels on my 2000 Camry LE. I drove about 45K miles on the tires and the tires had worn. Specifically, the shoulders wore out faster than the center of the tread, which still had some tread left.

I have always made sure that the tires were inflated to 30 PSI, which is what Toyota recommended (based on stock 205/65R15 tires).

As my aftermarket wheels are wider than stock, would my tires have worn more evenly if i had increased the air pressure a bit?

I want to make sure the next set of tires will last and wear evenly.

Thanks,

Tom,

I show the placard for the 2000 LE as 32psi on the 205 65 15. This tire will carry 1,334 lbs at 32psi. The 205 60 16 would carry the same load at 34 psi. I would recommend running in the 32-34 psi range on the next set of tires. Feel free to contact me directly to discuss the details.
