Exceeding the Min recommended rim width

In addition to my previous topic, I am considering using a 235-45-17 tire on my OEM 17 x 7 Toyota Matrix XRS rims. The min recommended rim width for the 235 is 7.5". Can I safely upsize to a 235 (which is actually a better 0+ than the 225-45-17)?

We recommend staying within the recommended range from the tire manufacturer in regards to rim width. The tire will perform and wear at its best within this range.

Somehow, I knew that would be the answer! I'm sure you're limited by legal constraints. Once again, I appreciate what you do.
