I got some great advice in the Tacoma forum regarding my trucks handling (it bounces and strays on uneven highway driving) and one of the suggestions was tires with an XL designation. I do 99% on road driving. I do occasionaly load it up with construction material and/or tools so would like the versatility of a tire that could handle that weight.
The tires are 265/75-15. Any tire recommendations would be great.
I show one tire with the XL rating in the size: Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor
Unfortunately it is currently on backorder and may take some time to get a hold of. Give me a call if you want to discuss options.

You might want to go with the stock designated size P265/70/16 for even more onroad comfort this is the size that came stock with vehicle although 265/75/16 fill out the wheel wells and look alittle better, but they also throw off speedometer readings and will hurt gasmileage alittle,my advice would be to stick with stock sized tires for all the right reasons(the truck was engineered to run best with this size tires without geartrain and other modifications). The Silent Armor tires stated are part of Goodyears plan to build tires with Kevlar reinforcement to insure tougher sidewalls free from punctures and nails but make the tire stiffer and heavier(this reduces MPGs) and onroad comfort a stock tire weighs 36lbs.an Armored tire weighs aleast 44-45lbs. for your sizes, more weight for the engine to push therefore using up more gas and those tires cost alot of $$$$$$$$. I might get flamed but Walmart has a Uniroyal tire called the Liberator AT that comes in XL designation,I was looking at them for my work van and the price is good and have a road hazard plan for rotations and damages from nails and such and are local for tire repairs or replacement. PS I wouldnt order tires online its a pain in the ass to return or settle problems even though some say its as easy as pie and have a zillion satisfied customers who never had a problem you might be the zillion and one customer who does, find a good reputable tire dealer in your area, the money you might save online(minute)is not worth the agrivation if problems arise, shop around for good deals.
Now my head is pounding as it turns out that the door jamb sticker which says 225/75- 15 is probably not the size for the alloy rims that are on the truck but nobody at the tire dealers or local Toyota dealers can tell me what the right size is, currently it has 265/75-15's.
So bottom line: I like the Michelin LTX m/s but they don't come in 265/ 75-15 the closest is 30x9.5x15 which the tire guy says will work but I don't know that for sure and even if they did I was looking to go to the smallest highway friendly tire that will work with this truck.
So if anybody knows what tires belong on the toyota alloy rims and/or what tires are compatible that information would be appreciated.
no pressure but snow is in the forcast and I am running close to bald.
thanks
The 265 75 was a factory option and likely what came as original equipment on the truck. The LTX is offered in a 31 10.50 15 which will be closest to your current tire. Let me know what you think.

Sorry my bad I thought you had the TRD Alloy Rims in 16",so 265/75/15 should be correct depending on the truck year? My 2004 comes with 265/70/16 tires stock. The Michelin LTX is a great choice, should be alot smoother than what you have on there,by the way what kind of tires are on the truck and what year truck is it?
Thanks for the advice, I went with the Firestone Destination LE which also got good reviews on Tire Rack and 1010 tires. The Michelin wasn't readily available which wasn't a problem last week as the weather was fine. I even considered ordering through Tire Rack and had lined up an installer, but then we got hit with a cold snap and snow in the forecast and I figured I better get something other than my worn out Laramies on.
thanks again for all the great advice, I hope I can return the favor one day.

Give us an update on how the Firestone LEs work out Im in the market for new Tacoma tires and have considered getting the LEs,would like to hear an overall impression of them. I was quoted a price of $112 per tire in NJ and have Uni-T technology in their rubber compound supposely sticks to the road like glue?
After doing more research than I did before buying my house i settled on the Firestone LE. So far so good but I was coming off some serious low end tires. I have taken them out on the hiway and they hold a better line than before. we haven't had any serious snow so no test of traction that way. the real test will be wear and I will post an update. the other recommended tire was the Michelin ltx- M/S but was only available in 31-10.5-15. The tire rack customer reviews are very helpful as the reviewers pull no punches when they have gripes.
