215/55-17 tires on 17x8 wheels

I found some wheels that I like on Tirerack and they only come in 8" width for my car. How well do 215/55-17 tires fit on 17x8 ET 40 wheels? The wheels seem a bit wide for tires that have a 215 width. Additionally, the 215/55-17 tires that I looked at have a rim width range of 6"-7.5".

These are going on a 2007 Camry.

What do you mean by crown look or stretch?

The tire will be a little small for the wheel and hard to say how it will hold up or wear. Best bet would be to follow the recommended rim width range and bump up to a 225 like gen5camry.

Are you suggesting 225/55/17? Since the stock for the 07 Camry SE is 215/55/17, this will increase the overall diameter by 1.61% or 10.92 mm.

I have heard of the 3% maximum rule for upsizing. In the above example, the diameter is only 1.61% bigger. Will this be ok? I don't think there will be any rubbing issue with such a small upsize. I think the engine should handle the increase diameter ok, especially for a V6. The odometer will be off slightly, but that not a big deal.

Is it ok to upsize from stock 215/55/17 to 225/55/17? Thanks.

This would fit without issues and we have used on the car before. Let me know if you need anything.
