Replaced pads, brakes still squeaks?

To make it short, after I replaced the pads, my brakes still squeak from time to time. I noticed that it happens with the first inch of the pedal travel. Anymore after taht and the squealing stops. Could it be those little clips? I ordered a new set already .

brake squealing is more annoying than anything else (especially since you know you have new pads). Mostly caused by debris between pads and rotor. Did you reuse the original brake anti squeal shims and also some anti squeal "goop" between them?

get a genuine Toyota brake pads. some squeaks are caused by the pads. then clean your rotors by sanding it a bit.

well if it aint toyota it'll cause more noise (most likely). If you get Akebono pads though (they're basically same as toyota) then you'll be good. And sometimes its hit and miss.

but yeah antisqueel grease helps a lot too

I have a "stupid" question about the antisqueal goop.

- If the goop is applied on the backside of the brake pad and shim, how does that prevent squealing? There are no "moving" metal on metal contact that should cause it to squeal when the brakepad clamps down on the rotor during braking.

Can anyone please shed some light on this? Or perhaps my way of looking at it is off.... Thanks for anyone's input

the "goop" (and shims btw) absorbs the vibration of the pads in the calipers as it "glides" across the rotors during braking that would normally make noise...

The pad does move in the bracket. The piston will "slide" at the back of the pad. The rubber compound remove metal to metal and also act as vibration damper.

Brake squeal is due to bad rotor surface. bad break in or uneven pad material deposit.

Try this tonight. Wash the rotor after you park the car and after brake cool down. You'll see a layer of rust in the morning. Just drive normal. Repeat for a few days. Squeal should be gone.

^ that probably wont be a long term solution. There are so many brands of pads out there and most of them can be used on various applications, but on some car combos' although it fits, it doesnt fit perfectly or is sized slightly differently, and that alone is enough to cause problems.

If you're working with all OEM equiptment its best to go OEM. U can play with aftermarket stuff and what not but ur always risking it.

Going OEM pads is fine for most people but if you want "better" performance certain aftermarket pads are the answer. Just be aware that not all "aftermarket" are the same (or even better than OEM). There are many great manufacturers out there. Sometimes the noise is not from the friction surfaces themselves...

BTW, aftermarket brakes doesn't always mean that you will have squeal. I have a 13" AP Racing BBK on my Maxima and it has ZERO noise...

Bout time someone said that. ALWAYS when you replace pads get the rotors resurfaced, if you dont your just gonna get squeeks!

my friends and i dont always resurface the rotors, esp the slotted/X-drilled, but we have no problems.

yes i relize people want more performance etc, but the oem braking system, if kept in pristine condition will do the job if the rest of the car is oem setup. Remember ur only going to stop as fast as your tires will allow, and fading or brake failure is not always caused by the pad.

Anyways no real debate here. If the pad, calliper, rotor combo doesnt work together, something is going to happen.

I bought some of the Napa brand disk brake quiet stuff and the initial squeal is STILL there! I'm talking about the first couple inches of pressing the brake pedal and anything after that is quiet. I'll wait a couple days and see.
