Oversize Diameter Q

Hey Kyle,

I have a question for you,

What are the dangers/potential problems of running a tire w/ an oversized diameter besides rubbing?

Maybe speedo off and rpms running a little lower than normal but I don't know that these would be major issues. Take a look at following formulas: LT FIT
It's listed as light truck but will have same type of effects.

I heard about potential brake failure? What does this entail?

Haven't heard of brake failure by using taller tires.....shouldn't be an issue. Give me a call with the specific issue and I may be better able to answer.

Do you have any specials right now for 5x108 rims? Maybe in 17s?

yea you could have a brake issue w/ bigger wheels and tires...

but your talking about 18' SUVs to like 24... or 26 inch chrome rims...

could get brake fade under excessive usage. you've increased the rolling diameter so much those simple one inch single piston calipers have a harder time stopping.

now i couldn't tell you how big you can go w/o having an issue cause its physics + weight + stock brake quality = i have no idea.

i've only heard of these issues w/ the higher diameters... not your typically 20's...

So a 205/50/16 to a 225/50/17. If we're just looking at diameter difference of about 5%, is there a problem/chance of brake failure?

Kyle, right now i'm really looking at different options. Do you have any really really good deals on anything wheel + tire packages? Or are all-most of them full price (200+ a wheel)?

Edit: I'm looking at the site right now actually...
So it's at least 100 dollars a rim per tire.
And maybe 80 bucks a tire?

So am I looking at around 1000 bucks for a 17 inch wheel + tire package?

Got your PM Kyle. Thanks for the help.

I have a question about this tire.
Avon Tech M550 A/S

Would you recommend it? I see that Tirerack rated it very highly but all the individual reviews say this tire is horrible.

Reasonable price/performance for the size....but depends on what factors are important to you. There are tires that will out perform and last longer....but tend to cost more. Give me a call if I can help.
