Tire Width Question

Hi, i just bought a Set of 03 ES300 Rims with Tires for my 04 Camry.
I was wondering if there would be problems with the tire size.
The Stock tire size for those rims are 215/60/16 but the ones on the Rims right now are 205/60/16.
Would this be any problem from a stock width of 215 to 205?
I understand that wider tires that were not meant for the rims would relate to the tires popping when going over bumps.
But I don't know what would a smaller width tire would do.

Tires are under a lot of stress when put to use. Manufactures understand these stresses and design tires to handle these stresses to the best of there ability for each size and application. The highest stress point in a tire is the shoulder. It deforms and flexes more than any other part of the tire. Tire manufactures design the shoulder of each tire with this in mind. When a tire is mounted on an improper wheel the stresses are moved to other parts of the tire effectively shortening the life of the tire and adding to the chance of an accident.
As for your application a 205 does fall within the recommended with for a 6.5" wide wheel so you should have no problems. When the tires wear out go back to the 215.60.16, for slightly better performance for this vehicle.

The thing is the 205/60/16 tires that came with the rims are practically brand new with less than 1k miles on them. I don't know if i should take these off and slap on the 215/60/16 tires since i already have a used pair of them in my basement storage that i bought for previous rims.

I'd agree with Travisdtd. They are a little shorter and slightly narrower but would be ok for the wheel width. You might bump the psi up to 35 or 36 if you use them to help with the load capacity since it is slightly smaller.
