Gen6 Brake pad shims....Hawk HPS

Installed new Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads ('90 SR5 coupe 4AFE). The pads did not include the shims. Dashed around looking for shims finally finding some at a chain store. The shims come with a peel off sticky on one side.

The old shims were destroyed on the old inboard pads but looking good on the outboard pads. The old inboard shims were single shims but the outboard shims were two piece and much different than the inboards.

The outboard shims were a slotted shim against the pad and a second shiny chrome looking shim to the outside of this slotted shim. Not sure if this is an OEM setup of shims or not.

I installed the Hawk HPS pads with the new sticky shims on the inboard pads and cleaned up and reused the double shim setup on the new outboard pads.

I am wondering if I should of just used the single sticky shims on all the pads and not use the old double shims I cleaned up. I have not driven on the new pads yet and the wheels are still off the vehicle. (I am currently working on replacing the timing belt and water pump).

Should I remove the outer double shims or use the single sticky ones on the outer pads?

Thanks... kc
