Spring and upper seat

I just reassembled my strut assembly with Tokico Blues and Eibach springs. The only issue I have is that it looks like the new springs don't quite fit in the stock upper seat as well as they should. I held everything in place as beast as I could while releasing the spring compressor, but it still shifted a little. Seems like the new spring might not be perfectly rested in the stock upper seat. It may be off by about 1/4 inch or so. Is this a huge issue? If so, how do I make sure the spring stays seated properly when releasing the spring compressor?

Also, how tight should the top nut be? It doesn't seem like it gets very tight!!

Oh yeah. Do I need to trim the bump-stops for this application:
2004 Corolla
Eibach Springs (1.1" drop)
Tokico HP (Blues)

You were also one saying you had the clunking noise too right? Possibly from the spring not seating correctly. I'm having the same issue.

I had serviceable struts on a 93, and replaced them with tokico and vogtland springs, doing so, I had to order spring plates, bearings, and upper mounts. I ordered the spring plates from toyota, but the bearings and top mounts from ebay. I put one of the bearings on upside down, which allows the spring seat to ride higher into the top mount, and causeing binding, flipping it over helped, but if it was doing it every other time, now it does it ever 20th time or so. I think I got cheap upper mounts and bearings (no name, oem) so I ordered a new spicer bearing and mount from rockauto.

Anyways, the clunk and the initial thought that the spring wasnt seating correctly kinda adds up. Have you re-done it yet to try to get a better fit?
