3rd Generation 93 Camry V6 LE Wagon

Anyone happen to know the true offset for the 93 v6 Le Wagon, I have been shopping online at tirerack and other sites, and using the "will it fit" by entering my car. I just finished dropping it with 93-97 v6 vogtland springs, so I know I have to be careful with the offset. I keep finding all kinds of 17" and 18" rims that the online shopping seem to think I can buy no issues. However, I stopped at a local shop and they went straight to telling me that the original offset is 38, and that there is no way any 40 or 43 offset will fit (I'm looking at 18x7.5 with 225/40R18).

The stock units are just starting to get the nice tucked look with the drop right now (the springs are v6 1.4" drop vogtland's), they clear the lip no problem, but I wouldn't think I can go much wider, I dont know in reality how much wider a 38 to a 40 to a 42 is, but if I were to measure I would say that the tire can be 1/2" to a little more wider with no rubbing at the lip.

Thanks for any help. Much appreciated.

more questions

While I waiting for someone with a gen3 to bless me with the info on a true stock offset for the v6 wagon, I've been trying to read and understand what the offset actual means. The higher the offset, the mounting point on the rim is closer to the outside of the rim, meaning that the edge of the tire moves inward, creating distance from the lip of the fender well?

I understand that changing the offset leads to increased wheel bearing and brake wear? When people say this are they talking about slight (say 2, 4, or 6) changes or are they talking about huge differences from stock that cause this. Just want to understand this a little better.

I took a look at what was offered at the 38 offset, about 3 rims compared to 50 rims or so at 40 and 43, so I'm real interested in getting a mental grasp on this.

Thanks for any help.

The offset is the measurement from the hub to the centerline of the wheel. The higher offset will pull the center of the wheel inward toward the strut while the lower offset will push the wheel out to the fender. Click here for better explanation. I believe factory offset was in the 38-40 range. Having incorrect offset could cause handling and clearance issues. Most cars will have tolerable ranges that are acceptable and slight changes will have to be made in changing widths and sizes of wheels. The wheels shown when shopping by vehicle are all within these acceptable limits. Hope this helps.

Your site is one of the sites that I have been looking at, although your vehicle selector doesnt have the wagon listed, just the i4/v6. 40,42,43 on the tirerack site seems to be a large listing, trying to stay at the 38 makes the list get micro. I assume that if your site is listing it while I search by car, its good to go.

How much of this changes with the 1.4" drop? Like I said, I put a dowl that was a little over a 1/2 inch diameter and pushed it against the stock tire and was able to stand it up 90degress, giving me the assumption that I could go 1/2" wider and not hit, but thats pushing it. Again, the 1.4" drop isnt that big I thought.

Thanks for allowing me to understand that a 40 offset is moving the tire edge further in away from the fender than the stock 38. A 42 would give even more clearance. Although the oem tire is only 15x6, so when your talking about a 17x X and a 18x X you probally are forced to a 17x7 or 18x7.

I'm confused, buying online scares me a little, your application is pretty sure if its listed by car it will fit? I guess its down to trusting the application, thanks

The applications are based on stock suspension but overall tire diameters are usually very close to the original equipment diameter. This won't however guarantee fit on dropped cars. You'll have to look at the dimensions closely and compare directly to what you are running currently to find how close things will be. Send me a message with contact information once you have a wheel/tire in mind and we can confirm/discuss details. Thanks.
