Gen6 widest tire on 17x7 stock rim?

Got an 09 SE Camry. Did a search and found 225/50 is the optimal size for the stock rim. Is this true? I always thought the stock tire was too skinny. So what is the widest without affecting the speedo and ride height?

According to:

By using 225/50/17 as opposed to the stock 215/55/17, the speedo will read 1.5% faster then you are actually going.

It's just that, with fatter tires, you are going to have some tire sticking a bit over the wheel itself, comparing 215 and 225 on the 17x7, the 225 will stick out 5mm more over the wheel from the outside, 235/50/17 should clear as well, but it'll stick out 10mm more now over the wheel.

215/55/17 is 26.3" in dia.
225/50/17 is 25.9" in dia.
235/50/17 is 26.3" in dia.

I think 235 would look a bit too wide for a 17x7 wheel, why would you need to change tires if you just got your '09 Camry? If anything, it'd probably be better to pick up some 17x8 or even larger wheels.
