Canada Is 16" x 6" rim recommended for 215/55/16 tire?

I want to install 215/55/R16 tires on my 2003 Matrix XRS and am currently shopping around for 16" alloy rims.

What are the disadvantages, if any, of using stock Corolla alloy rims (which are 16" x 6") instead of the stock Matrix rims which are 16" x 6.5".

Many thanks for advice.

you should be fine either way, with the 16x6", the tire sidewalls will appear to bulge out rather then sit flush with the rim.

Now, on the car, the 16x6" may appear narrower then then 16x6.5, but that's about it.

A 16x6 wouldn't be a bad thing on your vehicle. 215/55R16 are approved for a 6" wide wheel at minimum.

What are you looking to get out of your wheel and tire package? Year round performance? Winter performance? Do you drive mostly streets or Highways? We would be happy to point you in the right direction. Looks like most the aftermarket wheels we sell for your vehicle are 6.5 and 7" wide.

These would be for summer use only. 80% street; 20% highway. Comfort and low road noise are the most important factors for me. Goodyear TripleTreds had been recommended to me but several people have since said TripleTreds are heavy tires and not recommended for lighter vehicles like a Matrix.

The TrippleTreds are great tire, the reviews don't lie. Wet traction is great, they are smooth riding and with an 80,000 mile warranty they will last. One down fall to tires that have very high mileage warranties is that they are generally built using a harder rubber compounds. Harder rubber compounds, in general does produce a little more noise than softer rubber and can also be the reason for added weight to a tire. I believe these factors are, in this particular tire's case, minimal, the amount of life and all season performance you get out of this tire is worth the trade. At the normal price this tire packs a lot of punch for life and the dollar but these also currently have a $40.00 mail in rebate that sweetens the deal.

Now if you want more of the best of both worlds I would suggest looking at the Michelin MXV4 (H-rated) or the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The MXV4 rides especially smooth and comfortable and still has a 60,00 mile warranty. The Pilot Sport A/S also rides very smooth with the added benefit of all season traction. The Pilot sport A/S does not have a mileage warranty.

215/55R16 tires

Let us know if you have any other questions, we would love to earn your business.
