making the choice of winter and summer tires!

Hi,
I just recently purchased a 2009 Corolla S with 16" rims and tires. I am thinking of using the stock rims that came with the car for winter tires and grabbing a set of 17" rims for summer. The tires I got on the car are very decent but by October/November will probably have close to 15-20k km's on them. I do a lot of driving.

What would you recommend for a winter tire and what would you recommend I do regarding the summer. As much as the tires would be decent it will constantly be costing me to switch back and forth between the tires for winter and summer.

Thanks for the help in advance!
Sarah
Ps. Forgot to mention most of my drive is highway with about 40% being city.

As for winter tires, the 16" recommended size is 205/55/16, so according the tirerack's website, I'd recommend the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D tires. I have them myself on an IS300 and they work well in winter time.

For the summer 17" size, it recommends 215/45/17, and the preferred tire is yokohama s.drive.

In my experience, nothing beats Blizzaks in the cold and snow. Having said that the new General Altima are the best performance tire I've used, that still handles pretty well in winter conditions. If I was stuck with one tire, I'd go with the Altimas. The Blizzaks go bye-bye fast on hot asphalt.
