Hey everyone,
I have an '05 Camry LE & it's about time to change the tires. I looked on TireRack & a couple other places & so far I really like the "Kumho Ecsta ASX," they're like $55 a piece, ultra-high performance all-season tires. I like the tread pattern & all, I've always been under the impression that they were good tires. The only issue I have is that it only has a 30k mile warranty. Someone know why, are they really good tires, does that warranty really mean a lot, I mean is it b/c they are ultra-high performance? Does anyone have any suggestions for good tires>
It sounds like you want a tire with a better milage warranty. I would look into the Falken Ziex ZE912. This tire is currently rated number 1 in Consumer Reports in the ultra high performance all season category. The 912 in the 205/65-15 size comes with a 65K mile tread life warranty (H speed rating). Here's a link with more details.

Well, that's not what I'm saying, I'm essenitally asking, does the warrenty relaly mean a lot (I mean does it really say a lot about the quality of the tire) & is that a good quality tire?

I see, thanks for clarifying.
No, mileage warranties don't necessarily depict quality . They only give you an idea of how long the tire manufacturer thinks the tire will last. They don't tell you how comfortable a tire will be, or how quiet they will ride. They don't tell you how well the tire will corner and they don't tell you how good of bad a tire will be in wet or dry conditions.
Okay, so I went to the place where I get my tires done & he suggested me these tires...it's the Michelin Energy MXV4. They're Michelin's so I suppose they are good, he says these are one of the best tires on the market. He told me $530, mounted, balanced & installed, he says I won't have to worry about tires for another like 5-6 years. Is that a good price, are they that good? Also, my neighbor suggested I try Catalyst tires, has anyone had any experience w/this brand? Please let me know...
Okay, so here's the tire I've narrowed it down to...Michelin Primacy MXV4. It should be about the same if not a little bit more than the ones that I originally wanted to put in...Michelin Energy MXV4. I read the reviews on both tires & the Primacy's are significantly better than the Energy's. The Primacy's are a little bit more but if they're really that much better, than I think it's worth it. I wanted to know what people's opinion is on these tires, are they good are they bad? I put used Michelin's on my mom's '95 Camry LE Wagon & they are the best, far better than the tires I had on mine. Well, let me know what you guys think...
Michelin does build some of the best tires in the industry. The Primacy MXV4's are certainly an excellent tire. They are smooth riding, comfortable, quiet, provide great wet and dry traction and they last. Let us know if we can help you with them. We guarantee the lowest price on the web.

Thanks, I have 3 cars that i need to put them on. I'm going to give you a list of the tire sizes, just give me a price for all 4 tires...

I actually have another question. I've been looking @ prices for tires & I noticed that set that's $106 each have a 94H which has a speed rating of 139MPH & the one that's $123 each have a 94V which has a rating of 149MPH. Now, I know that it's the speed rating is how fast you can go on the tire, I obviously don't drive that fast, but I was wondering if it really makes a difference, or is it like just for those who drive that fast all the time, am I correct in assuming that?

Here are the links to our current prices on the tires you requested. As you may know, shipping and sales tax is free for NJ. residents. If you have found a lower delivered price please let us know
Okay, so I'm just looking @ the cart after adding 4 tires. I notice that they have a valve stem option, do they inflate the tire to the proper air, or do we still have to do that, b/c I know once you put air in you still have to balance them.
When replacing your tires it is recommended that you replace your valve stems as well. The rubber in your valve stems, over time, can break down. Because of this we add new valve stems for each tire order to your cart and let you decide to purchase them or not. This is to help you remember to have your installer replace your old valves. When ordering just tires online, your mount and balance will need to be done locally. (local charges will apply)
Okay, so as of right now, I want to put on the Michelin's b/c I just had an accident last week & I collected from the guy who hit me so I'm going to do tires w/in the next couple weeks. My neighbor suggest I put on these tires called "Catalyst." Has anyone heard of them, they're supposedly a private company that makes tires in the USA.
I would recommend the Michelin Primacy tires. I have them on my Camry, and they are a wonderful tire. Smooth, quiet, and decent handling. Very great in snow and rain too.
I would get them installed for the $530 at the shop you mentioned, as long as they have a good reputation. That's actually a pretty good price, as long as there are no other fees.
You could get them online for the $115/tire, but then you have to deal with two companies and purchases instead of one, and it won't be much cheaper.
If you buy online, you'll spend $460 on the tires. In order to be cheaper than the installed price from the shop you quoted, you'd have to get them installed for less than $70 (including all of the shop fees that they add on) Most shops in your area charge $15 per tire plus $2 per tire disposal fee. Wow- you'll save $2.00 by ordering online, and messing with two companies instead of one, plus waiting for them to ship.
Save yourself the grief and get them installed at the shop you mentioned for the $530.
Alternatively, if you went to a Sam's Club or Costco:
Sam's Club price per tire (including install fees) $152
Sam's Club current instant rebate on buying 4 Michelin Tires: $70
Total Sam's Club price for 4 tires installed: $538
**This includes free lifetime balance and rotation, free flat tire repair, as well as free Road Hazard protection**
You do need to have a $40 membership, but it is refundable if you are ever unsatisfied.
Costco price per tire (including install fees) $125 plus disposal fee
Costco price for 4 tires installed: $500 + disposal fee.
**This includes free lifetime balance and rotation, Road Hazard protection, free flat tire repair, as well filling the tire with nitrogen rather than air**
You do need to have a membership, but the $50 fee is refundable if you are ever unsatisfied.
