Tire Size help

I'm in the process of buying some 18" Moda MD2 wheels from someone. He wants to sell the tires as well which are 215/40/18. I know most recommend using at least a 225 tire, but he's giving me this for a really good deal. Will this be alright on my 2007 Camry SE?

Another thing to note is that the wheels are 50mm offset...I don't know much about offsets but from what I've read most don't go above 35. Is this okay too?

offset is just the measurement between the hub mounting surface (the part of the wheel that's attached to the car) and the center of the wheel.

what would help us in determining your tire size is the wheel width. it's sometimes printed in back of the wheel spokes or somewhere on the rim. in your case, it should read something like "18 X 6.5", "18 X 7.0", "18 X 7.5", or something similar, where the second number denotes wheel width in inches.

^225/45R18 would be your best bet. it's pretty close to stock rolling diameter, and the tread width would be perfect for a 7.5.

Gotcha...one more thing.

I really want the wheels to look as 'flush' as possible with the fender and not have the wheels so far tucked in. What size spacers do you recommend?

aside from necessary fender modification (rolling and/or cutting) there are risks involved with spacers and adapters ("adapters" are bolt-on spacers- google ichiba type II , project kics, h&r, etc.).

but if you are to go that route, i suggest a 15mm bolt-on spacer/adapter on the front and 15-20mm bolt-on spacer/adapter on the rears. i'm suggesting bolt-on spacer/adapters because any regular spacer above 4-5mm equates to not enough turns on the lugs to hold the wheel on.

i personally have a 15mm bolt-on spacer/adapter on my rears, but i don't recommend these all the time, since improper installation could literally lead to death. definitely do at your own risk.

here's the kicker though, you might actually be able to save money by purchasing wheels with a correct offset for that 7.5 width (around a 35 to 40 offset), because quality bolt-on spacers aren't cheap.
