2005 xrs wheel question

I searched and couldn't find anything so I was hoping someone could help me out. I may be trading my wheels for a different set but I'd like to make sure they actually work. The wheels are 18x8 and have an offset of 35. The tires are 225/40/18. I wasn't sure if 8" is too wide and I thought that the offset should be somewhere in the 40s. Will these work with my 2005 xrs? Any help would be appreciated.

I have +35 offsets on my 16 x 7 rims so the offset is fine. I assume your 18 inch rims are 7.5 inches wide maximum. You can do the calculations here:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

However, I would not recommend going with such big wheels since your diameter will increase a lot. That will make the gearing of the car taller making it difficult to reach redline quicker defeating the purpose of having short gears to reach redline quickly.

That is why I got 16 x 7 inch lightweight rims (only 16 lbs each) to keep the short gearing and reduce the rotational mass of each wheel. The result is more lateral grip with wider rims, lightweight rims make the car rev up quicker, the diameter has not increased, but reduced a bit.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. The wheels are 8 inches wide. Is that going to be a problem? The tire size is almost bang on so the only thing I don't know is if 8 inches is too wide and if the tires will rub

While turning, there might be a bit of rubbing, but I think for the most part you should be fine.
