downgrading tire width

My mom suv is currently running 265/70/16 and i was wondering if i can switch to 225/70/16??

will it have any affect in the ride?? any problem with a smaller width, she don't do any off roading or mountain driving. just a daily driver.

A 225/70R16 would be 1.6" narrower and about 2.25" shorter than the tire she has on there now. I would not recommend running this size. Tires in this size are not correctly load rated for her SUV. Here is a link to the tires we recommend for your mother's Montero.

235/75R16
245/75R16
255/70R16

Here is a tire size calculator to help you estimate the size differences and the effect each may have on your speedometer.
