I'm looking to buy a set of Hankook Dynapro ATMs for a 2010 4Runner I'm picking up next week (need to trade the Limited 20" wheels and tires that come with it for a set of SR5 17" wheels too), but can't figure out which version of this tire to get. Hankook shows both a P and a LT tire with the same tread, the only things being different from the specs are the load rating and tread depth (13 vs. 16). I'll be doing a lot of rough road driving on dirt/gravel/mud, but also quite a bit of highway driving and am looking for maximum wear but also great road performance (a compromise if I want both in the same tire, obviously, but this tire looks like a good compromise to me).
Can anyone comment on a likely difference between these two, P vs. LT with the same tread design (other than the slight difference in price - I'd probably get them from Discount Tire Direct - THANKS for supporting this forum)? For instance, would the deeper tread make more noise on the highway, and handle worse, or would I be able to notice much difference? I drive quite a bit each year and typically go through two sets of tires per year (the gravel roads eat up tread) - would the deeper tread last longer, or wear down just as fast? Thanks!

Hello Tim,
The Hankook RF10 is a great tire for your money. You could really run either size. The LT is heavier duty and would give you a little more durability but they would also add some weight. When it comes to life its hard to say which one would give you more. As you mentioned, your gravel roads will beat any tire up pretty good over time. Give us a ring if we can help you with your purchase we'd be happy to get some tires shipped out for you. 1.888.459.4080
Thanks for the info Travis. I have to find someone with a new set of 4Runner SR5 wheels and rims (17") near me that wants to trade for my Limited 20s, then I'll get some new rubber to put on them. If I can't find anyone then I'll see what you guys have for 17" wheels that fit the 2010 4Runner. I did not see where you sold packages for this, or if you sold the TPMS units? Looks like the LT might be better since I do some heavy towing from time to time and could vary the air pressure to match the load when needed.

We mount and balance any wheel and tire combination for free We also have the TPMS sensors available and can install a set for you. If you plan on doing some heavy towing I agree, the LT construction would be the better option.
I'm a little confused about these Hankook LT tires and if I'm able to mount them on your 9" wheels or not. The only three wheels that your site has listed for the 2010 4Runner SR5 are 9" Liquid Metal wheels. On the Hankook factory site it says the max size for the LT tires above are 8.5 wheels. Does this mean I can only use the P series tires on your wheels, or do I need to find wheels elsewhere for the LT tires? Thanks...
You are correct, according to Hankooks spec sheet, the LT265/70-17 has an approved rim width range of 7" to 8.5". This size will work well on the OE 17" wheels. The P265/70-17 has an apprvoed rim width range of 7" to 9". Because of the caliper clearance on your 4Runner, narrower 17" wheel options are limited.
So does that mean that you don't have a wheel that will fit the LT tires on the 4Runner? I assume by "OE" you mean original equipment?
Sorry for the confusion. BY "OE" I do mean original equipment.
I spoke with our fitment department and the only wheel that might clear and is approved for the LT265/70-17 is the Vision Warrior in size 17x8.5 ET25 6-139.7. Here's the link.
