2004 18"Tire Question

I have 2004 Camry LE with the 18 BBS wheels that were installed before we bought the car new. They currently have 235/45/18 pilot hx mxm4. I like the tire. They ride pretty well and have 55K on them. The only thing I dont like is that they tramlined a bit. In other words they would want to follow a groove or uneven spot in the road. It isnt terrible it was just annoying at times. What would be the best solution for fixing the tramlining. My thought was a slightly taller tire. Possibly the brand of tire. Before I buy new ones, I was wanting some advice. I even considered a new set of rims. Although I like the rims that are on it and dont want to spend the extra cash on wheels. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Randy

Hello Randy, Part of what you are feeling could be due to the tread pattern and part could be the size. The 235/45R18 is a petty large size for your vehicle. Do you know how wide your BBS wheels are?

They are 18X7.5. They came on it as a dealer option stock.
Thanks for your help. What do you think of the Contenintal Contactpatch and the Michelin pilot hx mxm4.
Thanks Randy

Size 235/45-18 is approved for your 7.5" wide wheels so this should not be the cause of the tracking you are feeling. What I suggest is dropping down to size 225/45-18 (also approved for your wheels) which is just slighly larger in diameter when compared to the stock size.

As far as tire models go, what are you looking for out of your next set? How many miles are you driving per year? Besides the tracking issue, what were your likes and dislikes about your current Michelin model?

Most important is a quiet ride and a comfortable ride. Well as quiet and comfortable as 18s can be. I got about 55k out of the Michelin Pilots and liked them except for the Tramlining. Probably most important is quiet, then comfort, then mileage and then wet traction. Im not a speed demon so performance is not a main concern.
Thanks Randy

You own the quietest tire I can recommend for you, they are excellent tires. If you want to try something else I would recommend looking into the Bridgestone RE960 AS Pole Position. This tire has a 40,000 mile warranty and they get excellent reviews for comfort and wet and dry performance.
