In what situations would you recommend a SQ sub?

And in what situations would you recommend SPL sub?

Depends on what the user wants.

I don't really understand the whole SPL thing. A set of good SQ subs when given enough power will get loud enough to cause hearing damage. Why would you want to go with straight SPL subs and send a gajillion watts through them and at the same time screw up your electrical system.

SPL subs are typically less accurate, have less tonality, and are less musical.

If you want good SQ and loudness a pair of 12" high excursion sq subs should get plenty loud

I guess it depends on the persons want's and needs.

when you like listening to music, use a sq/sql sub

when you like having your head bombarded by high sound pressure levels, go for an spl sub, although i could take a hammer and hit you over the head (which is cheaper than laying $$ down on an spl sub)

Unless you are going into SPL competitions, there is really no need for big subs...And if you do, make sure you have lots and LOTS of money to put towards it.

Always an SQ sub, unless you're competing in a db drag.

thats why sql subs are so popular, they give much more flexability.

btw, the XXX and IDMAX more than most, just because they can hold their composure at higher volumes.
