attn: Xenon - or anyone whos done speakers on a 98 corolla

Have you ever installed infinity 6.5" speakers in the front on a 98 corolla?
or any speakers on that car?
Im having problems installing my speakers... argh, i'll take my post from corollacustomz

I was in the process of replacing my front speakers with infinity 6.5" speakers.
I took the door panel off, pried off the oem speakers, and when i stuck the infinity's in with the windows down, it wouldn't fit (depth was too great on the speakers). So I got made a spacer to push the speaker out, and mounted it to the door (oh so ghetto-ly). I tested it out, it sounds awesome. I put the door panel back on, snapped right in, and then tried the speakers again.. Now they sound blown!. I pulled the panel off, and it sounded fine.

I've come to the conclusion that the door panel is pressing against the cone on the speaker, causing it not to be able to move freely, giving it that horrible distorted noise.

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or know how to solve this problem?
OR does anyone know of any speakers that drop right in? preferably infinities.

I was thinking of removing the OEM speaker grill on the door panel, but I also wanted to protect my new speakers as well..

And on a side note, whats the speaker size on the back panel? 6x9 or something else?

Thanks,
Peter.

I've put 6.5" Infinity Kappas all the way around. When I first put them in I used the spacer I got from Crutchfield. Well when I put the window down it hit the speaker. I called crutchfield and they gave me 2 more spacers. When I mounted the spacers I placed the speaker in the center of the hole and had to drill holes for 3 of the 4 holes. It lined up good that way and I then surrounded them in dynamat. I'd give crutchfield or auto install place a call and order some spacers I think they are $5 US a pair.
