ok so my tweeter has been dropping in and out lately, mostly when i first get in the car.. i have a feeling it could be because it is getting colder? i know its not the wiring b/c i just took off my door panels and checked everything. has anyone else had this problem with the cold weather effecting their tweeters?
Do this, while playing music, move the speaker wire connection on the back of the tweeter. You might need to do some soldering. Or if you have another connection somewhere in the door. You don't have the crossovers mounted in the door right?
no i checked all my wiring and its not that.. i played it with my door panels off and it was fine. i also reseated my wiring and everything just to make sure. could it be that it is the cold? i do notice that once the car warms up the tweeter starts playing again. could it be because there is fluid in the tweeter, no?
ok so i was messing with the tweeter today.. took it out, soldered the loose connections.. brought it outside and put it in.. tested it and it worked a'ok.. put the door panel back on and it wasnt working again! said, wtf! and went back to my orginal theory about the weather.. so while it wasnt working, i put my mouth up against it and blew warm air and BAM it worked!! i let it get cold again and it went out.. and did the same thing and it worked! sooo my question now is, has anyone ever heard of this happening and does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how i could possibly fix this? my only guess right now is the fluid inside the tweeter..
Maybe time to start shopping for a replacement. What is the ohm rating of the tweeter, and do you know where the crossover point is? (In case you wanted ideas on a replacement set)
you have a cold solder joint. use a solder iron and resolder the wires that leave the voicecoil and connect to the wire connection tabs. even if they look solid they might not be. if this is not the issue then there might a broken wire inside the tweeter that has a low enough resistance to work when the tweeter warm. hardly likely though. get a solder iron nad let us know how it goes. all you need to do is melt the solder and let it dry. that shold be all you need.
