I'd use the Dayton Reference's, but try them all out active

Surprisingly I went against the grain ,threw in the Silver Flutes- active. For a $25 mid it really sounds quite decent.I put some decent bass to them that I feel the ID's could not handle. They crossed @ 80hz with 24oct. slope. These are staying til the Dayton 4 ohms version comes out.I did not try the Daytons b/c I only had one & I just wanted to get the install done with.BTW the build quality on S.F. is excellent, cast basket, rubber surround, wool cone(uh?),it really looks like a more expensive driver than what I paid.

It does look like a nice driver indeed. How is the midrange detail?

Midrange is decent to me,about equal to the ID but these are the only mids of quality I ever owned & I haven't tried the Daytons yet.Like I said these are staying til the Daytons 4ohms comeout.
