are you using amplifers? if not, than it doesnt have anything to do with voltage.

most likely in either case, youve got some bad connection somewhere between the speaker and the source. track it down and youll be golden.

Try turning the gain down a little bit. At what volume did you set your gains? And I assume the RCA's are wired on the oppsite side of the car as the power wire, or at least far away. Does the RCA cross over the power line at anypoint?

You might also want to check your grounds.

Even with the gain down, some amps will produce some hiss. Even with a high S/N ratio you can hear hiss. Turn on your home stereo and turn the volume down, stick your ear up to the tweeters...you'll probably hear it.... But it shouldn't be loud, like a cassette without dolby NR...LOL...

yea the gains are pretty low and the RCAs run on the opposite side of the car from the power cables. the rcas cross with the power cable at the amp. but its 90 degrees.

Here is a similar problem posted by someone in a home audio forum:
http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/h.../483916-1.html

The hiss from my amp, with no inputs and gain turned down, was annoying because I had tweeters pointing right at my head. I redirected the tweeters and it was less. Eventually I stopped noticing it. Everyone thought I was crazy anyway, I was the only one who noticed.

I don't think there is a fix, other than getting a new amp. Just how loud is the hiss?

The hiss could just be the sign of a poorly constructed amplifer, and if thats the case, well....buy a new amp, lol
